International Women's Day at Chase & Holland

International Women's Day at Chase & Holland

We sat down with our Managing Director to ask her some questions about her career, inspirations, and what it's like to be a leader in the recruitment sector today.

Who inspires you and why?

My mum always taught me to respect others and treat people as you would want to be treated. She was loved by everyone as she always had a smile, great energy, and was an engaging personality. She worked hard and family always came first. Whilst battling cancer, she always had a smile and gave so much love right to the end.

I also find inspiration in Karren Brady CBE. She has achieved so much success born of passion, vision, and ambition, but realised through determination and hard work. She is an inspiration to anyone who wants to challenge the odds and turn dreams into reality. I love this quote of hers: “Be determined. Be enthusiastic. And be ambitious, because without ambition, no one ever started anything.”

What does your role entail?

I'm responsible for the overall performance of the company, leading the companies operations to ensure we always provide exceptional service to both our clients and candidates. I also lead, mentor, and empower the team to be the best they can be and achieve their goals and potential. I create and drive the company culture, strategy and therefore our success.

How have you found being a woman in your sector and being a female MD?

It is absolutely great. Women have the advantage of being able to multi-task, emotionally in tune and able to build a good rapport with clients/candidates. I think you need to be strong minded, ambitious and determined. I have learned to appreciate that nothing is personal and be able to bounce back quickly.

Our industry has got much better and seen a huge shift in mindset over recent years away from the boys club mentality of the past. I have to say at C&H I have always felt an equal. It is important as a board and business we all have the same values and beliefs, but also appreciate and respect each other’s individuality. The fact we complement each other has lead to our success as a board.

If you could give the younger you one piece of advice what would it be?

Believe in yourself and have more confidence in your own abilities. Dare to dream big as you can achieve anything you put your mind to. Be more adventurous, push yourself out of your comfort zone and have fun as well as work hard.
