Reignite the Passion for your Career

Reignite the Passion for your Career

Many people start their careers with what seems to be unlimited optimism and enthusiasm. Its natural to be excited about the endless list of potential opportunities your future may hold. Unfortunately, once your day to day tasks become ‘business as usual’, its easy to let the passion fizzle out. Couple the boredom with stress or a bad work environment and you may find yourself revaluating things.

At this point people begin to casually consider drastic options, however a career change or moving to Australia may not be what’s right for you. In my humble opinion, the best way to fix this rut is to reignite your passion for what you do. Yes, it’s something that is easier said than done, but it’s not difficult when you give yourself the time to approach it.

1. Learn What You Love

Remind yourself of why you chose this as your career and consider what aspects of your role you care about. Do you love adding value to the business? Having an impact people’s lives? Providing great customer service?

Once you know what it is, you need to pursue it relentlessly. Give yourself a chance to take pride in those things. If your current job doesn’t allow you to, it may be best to do so elsewhere.

2. Keep on Growing

No-one is so good that they don’t need to improve; Lionel Messi is one of football’s best players right now and he still attends training on a regular basis. In allowing yourself to expand your skills and knowledge further, you’ll find yourself feeling less stagnant in what you do.

If there isn’t any development being offered where you are, create some. Start reading up on the industry and immerse yourself in the latest news and trends. Read the best books, watch the best YouTube channels and browse the best blogs. As you go, write down every idea that crosses your mind. Integrate what you discover in everything you do and let it become a central part of your job.

3. Mingle with Positive People

There's an old saying that we become like those we choose to hold closest. Although your colleagues aren’t necessary the people you are closest to, you still spend a lot of time with them. Consider the characters you mix with at work, do they fill you with inspiration? If not, maybe you should open your circle.

Happiness is contagious. Spending time around the office’s optimists will gradually lead to you seeing things differently.

4. Endeavour to Inspire Others

In the earlier stages of your career, was there someone that took you under your wing? If not, what do you imagine that person would have been like? Let yourself become that person.

Having a positive impact on someone else can be a great buzz. Look around and consider those who may want to be in your shoes one day. Make time to support, advise and inspire them. Not only will this make a difference to you, but it will for them too.
