Health, Balance & Wellbeing

Wellness has become a buzzword within the world of HR and for good reason. Modern life is fast paced both inside and outside of the workplace and finding the time to look after yourself can be tough. From an employer’s point of view, this has opened up the floor to a lot of experimentation as to what works and what doesn’t.

Gallup and Healthways have broken wellbeing down into five key elements: purpose, social, financial, community and physical. As you can imagine, there is a lot of overlap. E.g. more financial stability will lead to a better social activities and healthier food choices.

Bearing the above in mind, this is what we’ve done so far:

Flexi-time

Once up and running, our employees are able to choose their own hours. If you want to work four longer days and then take Friday off, you can. If you want to start and finish early, you can. This means that our teams are able to structure work around other priorities in their life, whether it be kids, clubs or a favourite TV show.

Outdoor Club

The newest addition to our business is the outdoor club. Every Tuesday and Thursday we put on a group walk and run to give employees the opportunity to get away from their desk, exercise and have a natter with colleagues. So far so good. Employees have mentioned they’ve loved having timeout from staring at their screen and doing something productive.

Free Fruit

Every Monday, we get a fresh instalment of fruit from the local greengrocers and people are encouraged to help themselves. If we run out, we’ll order more next time. Take your pick of bananas, apples, pears, grapes, oranges and kiwis. If you’re looking for something more exotic, we take requests.

Breakout Room

Recruitment can be tough and sometimes you just need to switch off. We have set up a breakout room for this very purpose. Employees have the opportunity to play a game of pool, throw some darts, attempt a win on FIFA or have a few swings at the punch bag.

Our Very Own Therapist

Once a month, we have a visit from Karen at Serenity Therapies and employees have the opportunity to have a free session. Therapies include massages, reflexology, meditation sessions and hopi ear candles.

Culture Club

None of the above would have happened without our culture club. Once a month we offer employees a space where everyone can talk openly about what they like/don’t like at Chase & Holland and what we can improve on. Moving forward, all we can say is “keep the suggestions coming!”
